This Thursday, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) will decide whether to prioritize the interests of the people or a UK-based corporation proposing to take $4 billion from its customers' pockets to its Wall St. shareholders.
The corporation National Grid’s proposal would violate the state’s climate justice laws and result in a substantial increase in gas bills for New Yorkers—over $30 this year and to $67 over the next three years. These toxic projects National Grid wants to invest in should be retired, not expanded—they threaten our environment and communities' well-being.

Gas is neither safe nor reliable. As we write this, a town in northern Maryland is grieving the deaths of a neighbor and a 35-year-old contractor with Baltimore Gas and Electric following a fracked gas explosion on Sunday, which rattled the neighborhood, damaged several homes, displaced 12 families, and caused millions of dollars in damage.
According to the Pipeline Hazardous and Safety Administration (PHMSA), data on gas pipelines reveals that in an average year, nearly 6,000 gas pipeline explosions, fires, and leaks cause 300 deaths and over 1,000 injuries. The financial costs to communities from gas pipeline incidents total about $850 billion annually.
Drilling, transporting, and burning fracked gas threatens every living organism on our beautiful planet.
There are better ways to build energy systems- that’s why we are dedicated to powering New York with 100% renewable energy and ditching fracked gas for good.
This week, the Public Service Commission (PSC) will make a key ruling on National Grid’s proposed investments in its gas system. Join us at one of the actions below to demand New York State follow our climate justice laws and move us away from a future of superstorms, fracked gas explosions, unlivable temperatures, and ever-increasing incidents of cancer and other diseases.
On Thursday, join us in Albany or Brooklyn to respond to the Public Service Commission’s decision on National Grid's massive rate hike proposal. The company has proposed raising bills by $30/month in 2024, increasing to $67/month by 2026, to expand its fracked gas system. This leaky, toxic system violates NY climate law and harms our health. These two actions are part of a national Utility Justice Week of Action.
We must RETIRE, not replace, these outdated systems! Let's tell the Public Service Commission and Governor Hochul to reject this proposal and protect New York from climate disasters.
