It is HOT, but Hot doesn’t describe what we feel. SWELTERING better describes what we are experiencing in New York City’s concrete-covered heat island. Here are just a few of the grim highlights of the Northern Hemisphere’s hottest summer of all time:
Heat Wave Impact: 🌡️🏥 New York State hospitals saw a staggering 600% rise in heat-related ER visits.
Bridge Breakdown: 🌞🚧 The extreme heat caused NYC’s Third Avenue Bridge to malfunction, disrupting tens of thousands of commutes.
Hurricane Havoc: 🌪️🌧️ Hurricane Beryl claimed over thirty lives across six nations; its remnants triggered tornadoes as far north as western New York.
We will continue to fight to stop the development of climate-busting fossil fuel infrastructure. We will fight for a future where our planet can heal and hold onto the hope and joy that animate our movement. Thank you for believing in this work. Together, we will win a sustainable future and heal our environment.
