State of a Sane New York State
Sane Energy Responds to Governor Hochul’s Climate Record and State of the State Address
Another year, another State of the State. Sane Energy’s Response:
“Governor Hochul’s State of the State focused on driving prices down for New Yorkers, yet her comments on climate completely ignored her own record. On her watch, polluters have funded their record profits with skyrocketing increases on New Yorkers’ utility bills to pay for the expansion of their toxic operations. Corporations like National Grid continue to extend the lifespan of their fracked gas facilities, such as the Greenpoint Energy Center in North Brooklyn – polluting our neighborhoods and jacking up our energy costs to build more infrastructure that will keep us hooked on gas for decades.
We need substantive action now – communities must feel the benefits of the governor’s policies today. That starts by ensuring that the Home Energy Affordability Transition Act (NY HEAT) is included in her efforts to address the climate and affordability crisis, and it ends with fully funding public renewables for cheaper, cleaner, more efficient energy.”
We also sent a clear message to the Governor in the Albany Times Union.
This is what Sane Energy’s Associate Director Michael Paulson had to say, as quoted in the January 13 edition of the Albany Times Union:
No North Brooklyn Pipeline Fossil Fuel Walking Tour
On Sunday, January 12th, in Greenpoint, we had our biggest No North Brooklyn Pipeline Fossil Fuel walking tour yet, with over 30 people attending. The NoNBK coalition educated New Yorkers about National Grid’s poisonous LNG facility right in our backyard in Brooklyn. Momentum is building to close this health hazard and hold National Grid responsible. Look out for future walking tours on February 9 and 23; we can’t wait to show you around and let you know how you can help us end this monstrosity.

Before you come on the next walking tour, don’t forget to send a comment to Governor Hochul to make sure the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) says NO to National Grid’s fracked gas plan and Yes to Climate Justice!
Climate Jobs & Justice NYC Mayoral Candidate Forum
The election for our next mayor is heating up, and the primary is just around the corner in June. It's time to get real with the candidates and find out who's ready to fight for our future!
Join us on Thursday, February 6th, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM as we put the mayoral candidates in the hot seat and grill them on the crucial policies our city needs. We'll ask the tough questions about climate change, creating good jobs, and building a fairer society for all New Yorkers. Let's show them that we mean business and that they must commit to action!
We look forward to 2025 being a year where we can make New York State a leader in climate justice and a renewable future. With the federal government refusing to act, we will inspire the rest of the country to address the problems with renewable solutions. This is what our next generation deserves. Can’t wait to work with you to make this future a reality.
In gratitude,
Kim, Michael, Jeanne, Elliot, JK, Hennessy, and Claire!
