Over the holiday weekend, President Biden boasted about boosting oil production. He claimed we can increase drilling and transition to clean energy without delay. This is, dare we say, delusional.
As we approach the upcoming election, discussions around energy policy are ramping up.
With, at best, a compromised commitment to climate justice at the federal level, it’s more important than ever to fight even harder for a sane energy future right here in New York State.
Many of you will remember how, despite federal approval for the Williams NESE pipeline, we waged a successful campaign at the state level to block its construction.
While New York State has been a leader in climate action, in recent years, the state, led by Governor Hochul, has been dragging its feet on enacting climate action we desperately need, amounting to climate denialism.
Together, let’s seize the moment in the run-up to the November elections and turn it into action to get New York back on track as a climate leader.
New York’s utility regulators' disappointing decision on August 15 to raise everyone’s bills for fracked gas expansion reflects the kind of climate denialism adopted by Hochul’s administration.
Despite their rejection of our arguments, our fight in the rate case negotiations led to an agreement to include a discussion on the fate of the Greenpoint LNG depot as part of the deliberations on National Grid’s long-term plan. We need your help building the public record to support shutting down this toxic facility!
The Public Service Commission is now accepting public comments on National Grid's Long-Term Gas Plan Proceeding. Now is the time to take action and tell state regulators it is time for Climate Justice. Retire the gas system now.
After you add your public comment, please mark your calendar for these upcoming events:
In Brooklyn, we've organized small, focused events to gather community input on transitioning away from expensive, toxic, and climate-killing fracked gas!
Tonight! 9/5 at 6:00 pm: Info session and walking tour from McGolrick Park in Greenpoint
Join Sane Energy Project, a founding member of the No North Brooklyn Pipeline Alliance, for an info session and walking tour of National Grid’s LNG (Liquefied "Natural" Gas) facility to learn about plans to transform this site into 120 acres that serve the community, not a corporation dedicated to generating profits for its shareholders.
If you can’t make it this Thursday, we’ll hold another info session and walking tour next Wednesday, September 11, in Cooper Park in East Williamsburg.
Tonight! 9/5 at 6:30 pm Decarbonize CUNY Town Hall: Graduate Center in midtown Manhattan
The Professional Staff Congress of the City University Environmental Justice Working Group will host the first in a series of town halls tonight. Decarbonize CUNY is co-organized with campus leaders, and Public Power NY–Sane Energy’s Associate Director Michael Paulson will speak.
Please join us in learning more about the promise of public power and help us increase pressure on the New York Power Authority to develop an aggressive plan to implement the Build Public Renewable Act fully! Let’s make our voices heard on the need to decarbonize CUNY’s over 300 buildings!
If you can’t make it this Thursday, we hope to see you at the next town hall on September 12 at CUNY City Tech, where our director Kim Fraczek and Assemblymember Emily Gallagher will speak.
Listen to this week’s Indy Radio Hour THE RENEWABLE ENERGY REVOLUTION! Co-hosts John Tarleton and Ariana Orozco sit with Kim Fraczek of Sane Energy to discuss the fight against National Grid’s consumer price hikes. Then, Nancy Romer urges CUNY to make use of the NY Power Authority to lower electric costs and save energy. She is joined by Zach Jonas of Public Power NY about building a coalition for renewable energy despite Governor Hochul’s efforts to undermine clean energy advocates.
