We're starting the new year strong by welcoming Hennessy Garcia and Claire Lebowitz-King to the Sane Energy team!
Welcome Hennessy Garcia!
Hennessy is our new Community Organizer and will mobilize individuals in North Brooklyn to push for the closure of National Grid's LNG facility in Greenpoint. Hennessy is an Afro-Puerto Rican queer organizer. She will be obtaining her Bachelor’s in Environmental Science in May 2025. Climate justice to Hennessy is intersectional. There is no climate justice without racial, reproductive, or social justice. Hennessy believes that climate justice is deeply rooted in the fight for collective liberation and struggle not only for people, but for the planet.
Welcome Claire Lebowitz-King
Claire, our new Operations Associate, will manage our digital “back office” and work with our partners at Fractracker to maintain our signature You Are Here map.
Claire has taught theater, civics, and writing around the world, including Afghanistan, India, Ethiopia, and the UK. Her work as an artist and organizer with Occupy Wall Street led her to Sane Energy Project. It also led to many connections and social justice networks that continue to enrich her life today.
This year, we aim to upend the climate-killing agendas of profit-driven energy corporations like National Grid by promoting public power and thermal energy networks and fighting for the decommissioning of gas infrastructure. We’ve known about the dangers of burning fossil fuels for decades–it’s way past time to heed those warnings and boldly address the climate crisis!
