⚡All Electric Buildings Act is OFFICIAL!
It’s Official: New York’s All-Electric Buildings Act Will Be Implemented
New York State’s Building Code Council recently approved the implementation of the All-Electric Buildings Act. Starting January 1, 2026, all new buildings up to seven stories must be equipped with electric appliances. By 2029, nearly all new buildings must follow this rule. Since buildings cause the majority of emissions in New York, the state’s approval of this new standard is a huge win for the climate and for lowering costs.
With Governor Hochul actively blocking progress on climate, it’s more important than ever to not just pass laws, but to make sure they’re fully enforced. The Code Council’s action is a big step in the right direction.
Sane Energy is proud to stand with New Yorkers relentlessly fighting for a clean, electric future powered by renewables. YOUR activism is making this happen!
Power Up: More Public Renewables Thanks to YOUR Action!
Now Tell the Governor: We Need Even More Public Power!
After years of fighting, we’re closer than ever to building enough public renewable energy to reach New York’s climate goals! Sane Energy was one of the leaders in the campaign to pass the 2023 Build Public Renewables Act that will help phase out fossil fuels, cut utility bills, close polluting peaker plants, and create tens of thousands of green union jobs.
More recently, together with thousands of New Yorkers, we’ve been successful in pushing the New York Power Authority to raise its public renewables target from 3.5 GW to 7 GW, enough to power millions of homes. This shows they can reach 15 GW by 2030.
We must keep the pressure on Governor Hochul to deliver the full 15 GW. Send her a letter demanding the renewable future New Yorkers deserve!
We know it’s hot out there and getting hotter due to climate change, but here are some ways you can fight back. Let's turn the tide for our future.
Sat, Aug 9 at 10:00 am. No Pipelines in New York March Over the Brooklyn Bridge Join the Sane Energy Contingent
On August 9, we’re taking to the streets.
We handed Governor Hochul a mandate and a roadmap for real climate leadership. We worked tirelessly to ban fracking and block pipelines, passed bold climate and affordability legislation, and built a movement rooted in climate justice. And what has Hochul given us in return? A growing sense that she may abandon fifteen years of hard-won progress and hand our future over to polluters.
Governor Hochul wants us to believe her hands are tied, and that Donald Trump is to blame for the revival of dangerous fracked gas pipelines like NESE and Constitution. But let’s be clear: she is not powerless. She’s just refusing to lead.
By allowing these zombie pipelines to advance, Hochul is choosing to side with National Grid, the corporate polluter pushing to expand fossil fuel infrastructure in the middle of a climate and affordability crisis. These pipelines won’t serve our communities. They’ll power distant power plants that service the energy needs of AI and crypto data centers, while New Yorkers bear the burden: more pollution, higher bills, and greater harm to our health and climate.
We’ve been here before, and we’ve won. We stopped the NESE and Constitution pipelines because they were unnecessary, unjust, and incompatible with New York’s climate law. None of that has changed, but Hochul is refusing to stand with New Yorkers.
2026 is an election year. Governor Hochul can’t keep passing the buck. We’re watching. And we’re organizing.
Join us on August 9 for a family-friendly march and rally.
Let’s send a message, Governor Hochul can’t ignore: New Yorkers say NO to Trump pipelines, NO to National Grid’s greed, and YES to bold climate leadership.

Learn how the Greenpoint LNG facility, opposition to NY HEAT Act, and the proposed expansion of the Williams NESE pipeline are all connected through the dealings of National Grid and what YOU can do to stop this nefarious utility and protect New York.
National Grid is Stuck in the Past, Advocating for More Dirty Gas: We Have More Time to Oppose Their Plan!
National Grid has gone from working (way too slowly) towards meeting New York State climate goals to requesting a permit for the pipeline expansion that Trump wants. Just because he wants more fracked gas doesn’t mean New Yorkers have to fall in line!
Hochul and her regulators must reject National Grid’s request, and now is the time to register public comments. Make sure that the Department of Public Service (DPS) and the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) know that New Yorkers want a fossil-free future.
Don’t panic, ORGANIZE for a renewable future.
With all our love,
Kim, Elliot, Jeanne, Mike, JK, and Claire
