We're up against some tough adversaries here, folks, but we've beaten them before, and we'll do it again. Why? Because we organize with passionate, dedicated people like YOU! Together, we've shown time and time again that we can make a difference, and we're not about to stop now.
It's no secret that Governor Hochul favors the fossil fuel industry over the people of New York State. The $5 billion rate hike just approved by her Public Service Commission (PSC) for National Grid’s fossil fuel expansions in NYC and Long Island is just one of many examples of the governor’s climate denialism keeping New York from reaching its renewable energy goals.
But we're not backing down. We're still fighting for a New York powered by 100% renewable energy that's controlled by the people, for the people. We're not just talking about saving the planet but racial, social, and ecological justice for all.
If you missed it, check out our video below where we called out the PSC’s egregious decision. It's time to show Governor Hochul and her pals that we're not going anywhere until we get what we want—a New York that's green, clean, and fair.
Governor Hochul is still not listening. Instead of embracing expert-backed solutions, like thermal energy networks in place of gas networks along with energy efficiency, she's hosting a greenwashing summit on 9/5 in Syracuse, NY, promoting nuclear power and false climate crisis solutions. Clean energy isn't radioactive! Let's defend New York's Climate Law and demand genuine solutions for a sustainable future. If you're ready and able to confront her in Syracuse, sign up here.
From Dublin to NYC, we say NO to LNG
On August 24, Sane Energy organized an event with Irish climate activists utilizing groundbreaking public art sculptures in New York and Dublin created by Lithuanian artist Benediktas Gylys. His video portal connects the two cities through real-time technology and aims "to meet as humankind together and recognize that we are all inseparably connected, flying on this tiny spaceship called Earth."
Together, we used Gylys' portal as the backdrop for a powerful climate justice event to show our opposition to the expansion of fracking and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in the USA and Ireland. As we fight to shut down National Grid’s toxic Greenpoint Energy Center in Brooklyn, our friends in Ireland are fighting to block the building of an LNG facility in the Shannon Estuary.

As we reflect on our most recent effort to pass the NY HEAT Act and gear up for our campaign to get it over the finish line in 2025, we are mindful of the connection between our battles here and the struggles in Ireland and other countries to move us off fossil fuels as quickly as possible.
You can make a difference by joining our canvassing efforts to alert the people of Greenpoint about the cancer-causing monstrosity known as the Greenpoint Energy Center on Maspeth Avenue. Our first training session was on August 26, and our group's sense of possibility and power was simply electric.
We believe that we will win.

On September 15, Say NO to Governor Hochul's Climate Arson, NYC
🔥 The heatwave in NYC may be over soon, but the hottest summer on record is still turning up the heats! 🌍 And as if that's not enough, a new report shows we’re missing our climate goals, with the Governor calling them "unattainable."
But guess what? New Yorkers don’t quit—we rise up and fight back! 💪 That’s why we need YOU to join us in demanding a bold new plan for public power!
📅 Save the date: September 15th. We’re rallying in NYC to tell Hochul it’s time to unleash the People's Power and build 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. Let’s make sure she can’t ignore us! 🚀⚡
Tue. Sept. 24: Major Rally at NYPA for Public Renewables! White Plains, NY
🌍 Five years ago, New York set bold climate goals: 70% renewable energy by 2030. But with private industry dragging its feet, New Yorkers took action, passing the Build Public Renewables Act in 2023 to put the New York Power Authority (NYPA) in the driver’s seat.
Now, Kathy Hochul is stalling, protecting fossil fuel interests instead of pushing NYPA to build the renewables we desperately need. She’s even admitted that we won't hit our 70% target—a blatant violation of the law!
📅 On September 24th, we're rallying at NYPA's headquarters in White Plains to demand real action. Let's make sure Hochul hears us loud and clear: Unleash the People's Power and build 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030! 🚀⚡
