Don’t let ☿️ Mercury retrograde and a solar eclipse🌞 stop your activism!
Get grounded for surprising reveals from the stars to the Earth's core.
Today we are experiencing a Mercury retrograde and a solar eclipse. Astrologer Chani Nicholas advises us to expect the unexpected while grounding ourselves and allowing difficult feelings to be felt. Did you feel the earthquake on Friday? Did you know that seismic activity on the Ramapo Fault in New Jersey potentially threatens the fossil fuel and nuclear infrastructure along its boundaries?
For this reason and many more, we must stop investing in dangerous gas systems and keep pressing for the full NY HEAT Act, which will end subsidies for new gas hookups. We also need to push for energy efficiency and other measures that will stop corporate utilities from using our money to lobby against the future we’re fighting for.
In two days, on Wednesday, April 10th, Join the New Efficiency: New York Teach-In
Hey, did you hear? New York's got a whopping five billion bucks to splash on making buildings more energy efficient and accelerating the transition to electric power over the next five years! And get this – we actually have a say in how this pile of money gets spent!
Here's the deal: New York State runs programs to make buildings greener, but they haven't reached the folks who really need 'em, and they're not cutting emissions as fast as we need 'em to if we’re going to reach our climate goals.
On April 10, a panel of experts will explain this New Efficiency: New York (NENY) thing and why the current programs are failing. Then, we want you – yeah, you! – to pitch in your thoughts before the April 15 deadline.
Here’s the lineup:
Eric Walker, Energy Justice Senior Policy Manager at WE ACT for Environmental Justice
Chris Coll, Project Director, Low-to-Moderate Income and Disadvantaged Communities at the New York Department of Public Service
Judith Karpova, Green Pathway Consultants
Lynda Nguyen, Program Manager at Kinetic Communities Consulting (KC3)
In three days, Thursday, April 11th: Stop Utilities From Using Your Money to Lobby Against You
Utilities in New York are all about profit– private corporations with big investors and only one thing on their minds: their bottom line. So, while we're busting our butts to pass climate laws and push for some economic relief, guess where they go? Straight to Albany to try to undo progress toward our climate justice goals.
But hey, here's the thing: it's OUR money they're playing with. They shouldn't use it to lobby and toss cash at political campaigns. It's high time we stop utilities using our hard-earned dough to fund their campaigns to block the switch to cheaper, cleaner public power. Let's show 'em who's boss!
Sunday, April 14th: Sane Energy Director, Kim Fraczek, will speak at the New Directions in Environmental Law Conference
There's this great conference happening at NYU Law School called Climate Accountability from Big Law to Big Green, and guess what? Kim Fraczek, Sane Energy’s director, is kicking off Sunday’s program by talking about grassroots campaigns in New York City!
